Refurbishment of Strawberry Hill Train Station Waiting Room

In the Spring of 2026 we were proud to be chosen to be the window contractor to supply and fit new timber sash windows as part of the refurbishment project of the waiting room at Strawberry Hill Train Station.

Strawberry Hill Station a Brief History

Strawberry Hill Station derives it's name from the famous nearby Strawberry Hill House, the Gothic Revival mansion built by Horace Walpole in the 18th century.

Strawberry Hill Station opened on 1st December 1973 and forms part of the Kingston Loop line. It is understood to have been built at the behest of Lady Frances Waldegrave to ease travel for the many house guests she entertained at Strawberry Hill.

The current station building dates from 1935. In 2026 the waiting room has undergone extensive refurbishment which SashWise was privileged to be part of and is testament to the quality and craftsmanship of the timber sash windows that we install.

Project Overview

We supplied and fitted a total of seven beautiful arched Accoya timber sash windows.

The new sash windows were not only double glazed but incorporated both acoustic and toughened glass, to provide greater sound insulation, security and safety.

With a height of 3 meters and ranging up to 2 meters in width, the new windows were exceptionally heavy. So special consideration had to made in the construction of both the sashes and the sash boxes.

Alongside being double glazed the windows were fully draught-proofed and heritage window ironmongery was fitted in-keeping with the period of the building.
